Big harumph

I read all the time. Adult books, children's books, websites. I even have a blog that I sometimes write in. Now it's mostly just photos but I do dabble a few words from time to time. With all this reading, why can't I write. I sit to brainstorm and my brain goes into a heavy, dense fog. I go over my ideas and I have quite a few (with the help of PiBoIdMo) and I try to write. I tried burst writing today where I'm suppose to write for 10 minutes straight. Well, not quite. I was at work and eating lunch and could only manage a few minutes but even then it was tough to get anything down. I know I'm hard on myself but I also know where my shortfalls are. I procrastinate and I don't practice. Wow what a surprise that I have nothing to show. So, what's a girl to do?

How do I keep myself motivated?

Perseverance

Each day, if I spent half the time I use surfing the internet on my drawing instead how great would I be? Pretty darn great. So what's stopping me? The evil P word...procrastination. The evil if all evils. Well there are lots of other evils. It this one is up there and it's all self inflicted.

Must set up a schedule or routine where I can see and stick with it.

Painting

It's Mother's Day and we went up to Tarrytown in westchester. I decided to bring along some aRt supplies.

Gouache

So far I haven't done anything to further the plan but night is still young.

Later in the evening I pulled out my gouache. I've also liked the opacity of paints i.e. Oils and discovered that gouache which acts like watercolor sis more opaque. And have always been interested in trying it out. I have a ton of art supplies and of course found the set of gouache hidden away in the back.

I squeezed some out into my mini palettes and will try it out tomorrow when it has dried a but. I want to see how easily it reconstitutes.

Art

Went through some of my illustrations tonight. I have a lot that I am proud of. Of course I only keep the good ones. Maybe we should all keep some of the not so good ones too to keep ourselves pushing harder.

Plan here is to organize and see what I could include in a portfolio. Not an illustrator portfolio but one for production work at least. Should have one ready just in case.

Also I want to look at the style I've been doing and seeing where I may need improvement.

IF: RED

Hasn't everyone put something RED into the laundry only to find that now you have a new pink wardrobe.

Wanted to put some more details and background into the illustration but the week just flew by. Been such a long time since I've submitted to IF but crossing my fingers this will be the beginning of something very artful and enlightening as I view all the wonderful submissions on this site.

Also picking up my computer (ipad now) and getting those children's stories written and polished as well.

So sorry for the multiple uploads. Lots of trial and error.

Where did the time go?

So much time has gone by since I've blogged. I've blogged on my other sites but this one I seem to have neglected. That's not to say that I haven't been writing or illustrating because I have been. Perhaps not as much as I should be however. I'm constantly trying to fine-tune my process and my materials and not spending as much time on the actual doing of things. What is that called? Oh yes, PROCRASTINATION. My worse enemy (besides myself)
